What this course includes...
This self-paced course includes all of the information you will need to weave with wire on your own time on a multi-shaft table or floor loom. The course includes video instructional modules that will teach you how to:
- Prepare a 3 yard wire warp
- Beam and tie the warp onto a loom
- Consider choosing wefts, how to wind bobbins, and weaving the wire
- Decide about various weave structures and setts
- Work with the woven metal fabric for:
- Sculptural forms
- Jewelry
- Vessels & basketry
- 2D bas-relief wall hangings
- Mixed media use
- Navigate the course with a 33 page workbook that includes written instructions to support the video content
- Gain permanent access to the course information
- Connect with Christine before, during, and after you take the course for questions and sharing.
- Obtain approved access to the private Facebook Weaving with Wire community comprised only of workshop participants.
NOTE: This workshop is designed for 4-8 shaft table & floor looms only. It is not intended for a true beginner; the participant needs to have a basic understanding of the warping and weaving process.
Christine is working on a course of Weaving with Wire on rigid heddle looms. If you are a rigid heddle weaver, subscribe to my Fiber Studio School and she will send out updates when that information is ready.
You can see examples of Christine's woven metal work below. What direction do you want to take with your own woven metal fabric? Christine will support your creative ideas to bring them to reality!
Sculptural Forms
The woven metal fabric is ideal for creating sculptural forms. The fabric is strong but flexible and can be fashioned into an unending variety of three dimensional shapes.
Jewelry
There are many shapes you can create for jewelry applications with the woven metal fabric. Lightweight and flexible, it is an exciting fashion accessory!
Vessels & Basketry
The woven metal fabric can be created in a range of widths (from 3/8" to several inches wide). The resulting fabric can be used for traditional basketry techniques and other vessel forms.
Student's reviews about the course
"Christine's workshop opened so many new doors in my weaving world. Her handouts and videos were well thought out and pertinent to the subject. This was a new way of thinking for me, I usually follow form/function, so her encouragement to play was great. I do recommend that you buy enough wire the 1st time so you can put on a 2nd warp when the workshop is over so you don't lose the momentum of what you've learned. Your mind will be blown away at the cool objects you can create with a wire warp!" - Ginger T.
"Wire is a lively material, and without Christine's Self-Paced Course, I would have thrown in the towel at winding the warp! Her course is packed with information and advice that comes from years of experience. Christine balances pace and information perfectly, creating a course that is both engaging and easy to follow. After taking her self-paced course, I feel fully prepared to successfully continue my weaving with wire journey!" - Molly K.
